In May 2014, Mr. Compher attended the MAEOE Youth Summit. Throughout the visit, he was able to grasp a firm understanding of the Green School values and application process, as well as network and built relationships with the Department of Natural Resources, which would prove beneficial the following school year as DMS earned a $2,000 grant from the DNR toward the Trout in the Classroom Initiative.

In July 2014, Mrs. Davis ( Math ) , Mr. Monaco ( World Cultures), Mr. Merlette( Math/ Science/ Tech Ed), and Mr. Compher ( Science ) attended a week - long Professional Development course entitled , " Outdoor Science Summer Advanced Environmental Science Workshop". Baltimore County Public Schools provided secondary teachers of all contents this opportunity in order to "... provide teachers from grades 5-12 an opportunity to explore local environmental issues, conduct field investigations, and to plan possible STEM student projects for the 2014-2015 school year. Teams of up to three Math, Science, Language Arts, Social Studies or Art teachers per school are invited to attend this workshop. Participants will conduct field investigations at local parks and BCPS Outdoor Science program sites while developing projects and investigations for students. Projects and investigations will align Common Core Standards, the Next Generation Science Standards, and Maryland's Environmental Literacy standards."
The culminating exercise ( documented below) was to create an investigation which can be implemented across the contents. The result was a water quality survey, the implementation of which is slated for May, 2015.

In August 2014, Mr. Merlette and Mr. Compher gave a PowerPoint Presentation to the entire DMS faculty and staff announcing that DMS would be applying for Green School Certification.

In October, 2014, five members of the DMS faculty ( Ms. Sara Mullin, Mr. Brian Muffoletto, Mr. Devin Kirby, Mr. Robert Lamarr, and Mr. Ken Compher attended Teacher's Night on the Farm, "an open house/resource fair designed to bring ag-education providers and teachers together in a casual, fun, and informative evening." The faculty learned about multiple ways to incorporate agricultural education into instruction and networked with various organizations. A large focus was placed on methods to reduce agricultural impact on the Chesapeake Watershed
Green School Action Team
Since September 2014,the Green School Action Team meets once a month to discuss events and happenings that take place around DMS. The Action Team is made up of nine teachers; Ken Compher ( 6th grade science), Jeff Merlette ( 6th & 7th grade science / 7th grade Tech Ed ), Kathleen Davis ( 6th grade Math), Amanda Blue ( 7th grade Tech Ed / 8th grade World Cultures), May Knio ( 7th grade science / 7th grade Enrichment), John Monaco ( 6th grade World Cultures ), Devin Kirby ( Special Education / Science / Math ) , Chris Slavin ( 6th grade Reading / Language Arts ), & Sally Roberts ( Special Education Chair / 6th grade Science )

On January 26, 2015 , Mr. Joe Davis from the Baltimore County Public School Office of Outdoor Sciences came to DMS to present about promoting environmental literacy across the contents. Pictured to the left are several of the DMS Staff collaborating to identify environmental issues affecting the Dundalk community.
