Clean Green 15 Challenge
In the Spring of 2014, Baltimore County Public Schools partnered with Baltimore County Executive Ken Kamenetz to launch the Clean Green 15 Challenge. The challenge focused on community litter clean ups, with grants awarded to the schools who logged the most litter removed from the community. In October 2014, DMS was awarded the Grand Prize of a $4,000 grant. In total, Dundalk students recruited local businesses in the community and personally collected over 430 bags of litter ; logging over 12o separate cleaning events. The awards ceremony was featured on the Baltimore County Public Schools website, The Dundalk Eagle, and on multiple local news programs. |
Terracycle
DMS joined forces with Terracycle in 2014. Through the use of advertising on the morning announcements and strategically placed collection centers, to date students have collected and bagged up 64.5 lbs of ink and toner cartridges. We are also currently participating in other brigades involving used writing implements, energy bar wrappers, and cell phones.

Recycle Crew
Since 2013, the FALS students of DMS rock their blue Recycle Crew T-Shirts every Wednesday and Friday to go from class to class to gather recyclables. The crew is made up of 7 students, ranging from ages 12 to 16, encompassing grades 6-8.Since the start of the 2014-2015 school year, they have collected hundreds of pounds of recyclables, earning over a combined 195 service learning hours. Videos promoting the recycling crew air twice a week on the morning announcements. ( video upload may not capable in some formats, available upon request via e-mail)

Throughout the 2014-2015 school year, Dundalk Middle participated in the nationally recognized Recycle Bowl challenge. DMS ranked 5th overall of participating Maryland schools, filling one hundred and four (104) 35 gallon bins of recyclable materials. Between the months of October and November of 2014, DMS students, staff and faculty kept 2,771.07 pounds of paper and 323.52 pounds of plastic out of landfills. proceeds from recycling efforts benefit the DMS Green Club, which in turn stencils storm drains, creates reef balls, blue bird boxes, and environmental awareness ads for the morning announcements.

Cafeteria Recycling
During lunches students utilize the blue recycling bins to dispose of recyclables and to share unwanted food items that would otherwise end up in landfills ( Incidentally, the apples must not have been that appealing on this particular day ).
